We purchased this seat for my husband's vehicle, because the Britax Monarch, which we have in our primary vehicle, was no longer available. We love the Monarch and tried to locate another one, but had to settle on another option when none could be found. After researching various seats, we purchased the Recaro, because the side impact and head protection that we have with the Britax (very important to us) is also offered on the Recaro.
SO. I really, really don't like this seat. If it was in my vehicle, it would have been returned immediately. As it is, my husband puts up with it b/c it would be a hassle to send back.
When my husband picks up our daughter from school, I worry constantly that he probably hasn't double and triple checked the belt when he puts her in his car. You MUST check the belt, as it easily (and often) gets snagged in the top belt guide. This then causes looseness in the shoulder belt across the child, and it won't retract in an accident or during sudden stops. I would never buy this seat again, simply for this reason.
Aesthetically, the seat is not attractive. The material seems cheap--it reminds me of the stuffed animals children win out of cranes...the kind that snag on your skin. It feels bad, and it looks faded. Just ugly.
My daughter doesn't mind sitting in the seat...other than getting in trouble for moving forward AT ALL, b/c the belt then gets tangled.
People have mentioned that it's difficult getting the belt threaded through the arm rests. I guess I can see their point, but this type of inconvenience is an important design element, as the lower lap belt should rest on your child's thighs, rather than across their tummy. The belt going through the low arm rests makes this possible. Seat belts across young tummys can injure immature internal organs. I can stand a little inconvenience w/buckling, if the seat protects my child. Too bad the rest of the seat fails to consistently provide protection.
